I am trying out circles combined with bundares and I just had the following for me unexpected experience:
I created a circle and added one member. I realized I was not able to actively add myself to the circle, so I assumed I was by default a circle member.

Then, I created a post where I set reading and interacting boundaries to only the circle I created. After clicking "post", I clicke the little "view post" link and was directed to the post, which I was not allowed to view. (see screenshot) So, apparently, I am not in the circle myself.

Maybe this is behavior as intended, but this is not how I expected it to do. Maybe, what I am trying to do is what you are implementing with groups, but still, this behavior looks a bit awkward to me.
