just setting up my bonfire
@toychicken hello 😊 feel free to look around and share any feedback you have! We're currently collecting user-reported bugs and feedback to address as we go.
@ivan one very minor one so far. Input boxes on sign-up go a bit 'bright', and can't see if I've pasted in password correctly. NB, am using 1password to generate - don't know if that makes any difference.
Intro post. Checking out the Bonfire.
OK - it's first post time. Traditionally, one introduces oneself and puts some kind of hashtag, like #intro #introduction or #newHere
I'm really interested in Bonfire, and how it's adopted a bit of a 'wait-and-see' vibe, whilst quietly getting on with making their thing. Let's see how it goes.
For those that care, I'm also on Mastodon and BlueSky but most of my stuff goes on my own site - [LRG.io]( https://l

Feedback and bugs
Just joined 3 minutes ago.
I'm going to list my feedbacks and issues I find:
- Missing tooltips when mouse-over the icon under posts in the timeline. The "Reply" and "Boost" icons have a tooltip when hovering the mouse cursor, but the "fire" and the "bookmark" icons don't have any. Because of that, I'm uncertain what the "fire" icon means. I'm guessing it's a "Like"?
- Settings Profile: Error message when trying to open my profile in Settings. It started after I tried to add a profile picture and some aliases to my Pixelfed and Mastodon accounts. Because of that, it seems like I can't edit my profile anymore.
I will update this post if I find more issues
@narF added your feedbacks in our next release candidate, thanks 😊 github.com/bonfire-networks/...
Seems like I can't access Settings at all anymore 😞
The error message is pretty long and unclear: extrait.facil.services/?6e50...
More tiny annoyances:
- Another button lacking explanation tooltip on mouse-over:
In the Notification screen, top right of the middle section: the double checkmark icon.
- On Mastodon, we can paste a picture from the clipboard in the post box and it attaches the image as a file attachment. That doesn't seem to work on Bonfire.

Hello! First public post here. I have some questions and feedback about the project.
For reference, I'm someone who has never made an account on the Fediverse for a number of reasons -- one of which being that unfortunately a lot of the Fediverse is modeled off of Twitter, and what I look for in a website is more along the lines of Dreamwidth. What caught my eye about Bonfire is the rejection of venture capital, the interest in prosocial design, the ability to make long posts, and the circles feature, which sounds a lot like Dreamwidth's custom access filters.
So on that note, I'd like to ask about the points of reference and overall vision for Bonfire. It looks like Bonfire Social was modeled after Mastodon in some ways, and I'm curious about what other websites, software, or platforms you'd be willing to draw on for inspiration.
For instance...
-
Can you say more about the vision for the "groups" feature? I can't tell from the description if I should be picturing something like traditional forums or if it's something more like Reddit subreddits and Dreamwidth communities.
-
So far I can't tell if there's already a blacklist/filtering feature or plans to add one. I would hope so, given the emphasis on customization. To make blacklists more effective, I think it would make sense to give tags a separate text field, like on Tumblr and Pillowfort, since Twitter-style inline tags tend to lead people to tag less often (which makes blacklists less effective).
-
I would also be strongly interested in Bonfire adding more comment controls like the ones on Dreamwidth, Pillowfort, and Wordpress, which I think are an important prosocial measure and something sorely lacking on Mastodon. Is that something you'd be willing to add to your roadmap?
I liked what I saw of Bonfire the first time I tried it (over a year ago?) but it was clearly not yet ready to be used for the sort of thing I'd like to prototype
I've been experimenting with the sample setup provided by the (streams) repository ( codeberg.org/streams/streams ), a somewhat stripped-down version of Hubzilla ( hubzilla.org/page/info/home )... both powerful and interesting approaches. But, I confess, I've had a hard time grasping and learning everything I (a modestly technical person in my declining years) the intricacies of setup and administration. I would also need to spend a lot of time writing documentation which would make it accessible to Mere Mortals.
So I'm eager to see how Bonfire has developed, to figure out what uses it may be put to, and to see how much of a foundation it provides for building other things...assuming I can interest technically capable developers and designers in joining me in my project.
habrá que probar los círculos una vez que haya federación

Hello Bonfire! Love testing this out!🐶 🐒
