What're we all up to here lately? Still workin' on my schoolwork that got in the way of my bonfire build, but finish lines and reorientations are slooowwwly getting closer.
I'm at the #fediForum this week, anyone else?

I've been a participant in Mastodon communities since 2017, and a participant and moderator/admin of small, alternative online social spaces since the dark ages (1991, anyway). Here to explore Bonfire's ecosystem and potential!

Hey all.... been so busy with school and spending my few spare moments just getting up to speed with Debian that i havent popped in to any Bonfir timelines!
Currently at a community org meetup trying to find communities who want to better their tech.
@johannab Thanks for pointing out! It is indeed a bug, tracking it here: https://github.com/bonfire-networks/bonfire-app/issues/1601
@mayel oh, thank you - should I just pester you guys right on github?
I have an account though haven't had much cause to use it other than just reading along. BUT ... my last IT role was "global support" which was a lot of bug hunting and filing issues and service and feature requests. If I can be useful I can figure github out a bit better, I'm sure.
Here's another UI oddity I just tripped over: While exploring settings, I was in Advanced and found Federation Status. Is this intended for a normal "User" to see?
I'm attaching two screenshots. One shows presumably the results of my activity federating (3 issues Need Attention). When I clicked on "Refresh" though, i got the second screenshot, with THOUSANDS of issues that need attention. Possibly a very confusing thing for a normal user to see?
@johannab @LiquidParasyte i guess this happened because this instance may have had federation enabled for a little while, and you were indexed from dinteg during that period
@mayel @ivan @LiquidParasyte
oh, interesting. It's only been a couple of weeks I've been playing around wth either - would this have happened between the instances even if it was before I had an account?
These are the fascinating little bits of integration that always leave me wishing I had a deeper understanding of code and protocol.
@johannab @LiquidParasyte this instance is local-only, it's a space for testing bonfire social, provide feedback, report bugs or ideas.
We dont plan to run a flagship instance because we're focused on developing tools, not hosting or moderating instances
@ivan @LiquidParasyte Oh, I totally understand that Ivan - I appreciate being here in the sandbox. I was just curious that when I added this account (me - here) as a member of a "Circle" from my bonfire.dinteg.ca account, that the "Circles" sub-menu appeared here in the sidebard indicating I had been added.
So we're not completely walled off here, but our posts do not get out?
I think I'm just poking things with sticks right now to see what happens, as I decide on platforms I want to start promoting to community orgs I'm volunteering with. I just need to wrap my brain around the experience and be able to explain it properly to people who are LESS likely than I am to figure things out.
@johannab I didn't know that circles could federate, but I guess that makes sense
@LiquidParasyte I'm curious as to how it happened with this instance supposedly not federating. So the functionality is to notify a remote user they've been added to a circle ... but not allow that remote user to see or use the circle? And is that the intended function or is that an oddity due to my other instance "federating" but this one is not?
Soooo, I am testing BF out on two sandboxes, with two different levels of user, I think. I created a Circle on one, and because I added all my other accounts to my Circle, it showed up as a circle on campground.bonfire.cafe. It's an empty circle here, though, or I don't see anyone in it, including the account that created it.
wonder if that's right?
I am just posting to narrate my walk-throughs for later refinement of notes.
@johannab great to have you here! We will have some cool announcements in the coming weeks, and would love to hear more about your case studies
@ivan will you be attending FediForum next week? I had hoped to join a session related to this. Unfortunately I literally have a direct conflict, I will be in another province at a 3-d forum related to my other studies for this term. That said, I will try to drop in when I can and am currently doing online-social jigsaw puzzles in my head and my Obsidian notes, trying to relate these two realms.
More when I suss it out, but I would love to connect in the coming weeks over whether I and some collaborators can support your team with some sort of early user testing and feedback.
Hi there sandbox. Newly joined, but I've been watching what Bonfire's been up to since you turned up at a Fediforum, and looking forward to a chance to see how well you trample a Mastodon.
I'm part of the admin teams at wandering.shop and cosocial.ca, but also a grad student trying to figure out a pitch for a capstone project somewhere in civic tech + urban communites spaces, so getting more into Bonfire has been realllllly intriguing.
