A reminder that Mastodon has no algorithm that pushes posts favorited by others. This is a fundamental difference with the way Twitter works. If you like a toot and want others to see it, the best way to do that is to boost. Favoriting a post helps the author know you liked it but doesn't do much more.
Here's a rare, authentic photograph of Henry Hoover, 31st president of the United States of America.
The photograph was taken in his childhood home in Iowa, in 1887, when he was 10 years old.
How do you approach developers who have not been trained on accessibility and are reticent to ask for help because they see it as admitting they don’t know how to do something?
For my mind, it's the "whatevers" who will kill the vote. Those who aren't engaged enough to find out what it's all about and will vote No as the safe option. Add them to the shouty No voters, and the Yes crowd will have a problem.
I remain optimistic, but not confident.
Broadly speaking, it's going well, thanks. It's a difficult time family-wise — there's been a recent death in the family, and Mrs Wife has just been taken into hospital (for something non-life-threatening) — but learning that I'm autistic has been a blessing, not a curse, because it's helped me to understand who I am and shed new light on the past. I've been reading a lot, as you might imagine.

Some information coming out of the antitrust lawsuit against Google:
"Google likely alters queries billions of times a day in trillions of different variations. Here’s how it works. Say you search for “children’s clothing.” Google converts it, without your knowledge, to a search for “NIKOLAI-brand kidswear,” making a behind-the-scenes substitution of your actual query with a different query that just happens to generate more money for the company, and will generate results you weren’t searching for at all. It’s not possible for you to opt out of the substitution. If you don’t get the results you want, and you try to refine your query, you are wasting your time. This is a twisted shopping mall you can’t escape.
Why would Google want to do this? First, the generated results to the latter query are more likely to be shopping-oriented, triggering your subsequent behavior much like the candy display at a grocery store’s checkout. Second, that latter query will automatically generate the keyword ads placed on the search engine results page by stores like TJ Maxx, which pay Google every time you click on them. In short, it's a guaranteed way to line Google’s pockets."

You can opt out and stop using their search engine. There are several that actively go out of their way not to abuse their users, I use and recommend Qwant
Explain COVID Denial to me like I'm a 5 year old.
Janis Joplin died of a heroin overdose on this day in 1970. The first concert I ever saw was Janis' second to last performance, at the Shea Stadium Festival for Peace. She was a force of nature.
I could only speak from my very old personal experience, and my answer was no. I think alcohol affects me the same way as it affects NT people- the only noteworthy differences are, that I *really* don't like its taste and neither do I find being drunk fun or enjoyable in the least. If anything, I find the feeling of not having clear thoughts somewhat annoying. I really enjoy being able to think fast and hard!
So I tried to understand what makes drinking enjoyable for a time, wasn't sufficiently entertained and gave up. I've been 100% sober for over 10 years now and don't see that changing.
How about you?
I give up. I can't read your article if every 5 seconds an ad causes the margins of the page to move in and cover the content.
You don't get love by smothering the target of your affection. Why do you think it works differently for other forms of attention?
One of my favourite (and oh so simple) hacker tricks is to abuse JSON support in APIs and pass TRUE instead of the actual API key. If the code does loose comparison, you don't need the key! 😎 😈 🍿

Le chien ne sera pas euthanasié juste pour cet accident.
Par contre il va falloir le prendre en charge, et bien. Et j'ai toutes les raisons de croire que ce sera fait.
