Apropos of this, it turns out the first appearance I can find of the phrase "war on motorists" in the British press is even earlier - 1902. Although the limit then was 12mph...
Bah, ça a fait marrer les gens. La cheffe suprême toute petite qui pulvérise la grande saucisse, que veux-tu, ça valait le sacrifice.

The poem honours another famous political poem. The ode to our sycamore was written by Simon Heywood.
For those unfamiliar with the original...
The sycamore was approximately 300 years old and was/is in excellent health. Those who felled it were professionals with professional equipment, so it's unlikely to be the (now bailed) 16 yr-old arrested yesterday.
We, us Northumbrians, are being asked what we'd like to see happen at the gap now.

Personally, I am campaigning for coppicing. https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/discover/nature/trees-plants/what-is-coppicing
I've seen opinions which say the tree is too old... but given it's clear robust health, I say we owe it to the tree and the land to give it a try.
I invite anyone moved to respond to please do so (be kind to our local paper - it's not used to going viral) because the Spirit of the Sycamore has an international reach.
Our Sycamore in the gap starred alongside Kevin Costner & Morgan Freeman in the 1991 film 'Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves'. https://www.greatbritishlife.co.uk/news/23820137.sycamore-gap-also-known-robin-hood-tree/
The Force is strong with this Sycamore - let's give the tree a chance at resurrection & *eternal* life!
T'es comme moi , tu hésites pas à tricher
