I joined Michael Lewis on his podcast back in May, and found him generally skeptical of both cryptocurrencies and the industry. We didn't talk much about FTX specifically, which is perhaps why I left that conversation hopeful about this book.

If Sam Bankman-Fried is convicted in the upcoming FTX fraud trial, Lewis’s admiring biography will take an awkward place on the shelves of history.

To this day, Bankman-Fried claims that the collapse of FTX, and the more than $8 billion in missing customer funds, is all the result of mismanagement and sloppy record-keeping, but not intentional fraud. By writing a book that largely backs up Bankman-Fried’s claims, Lewis seems to be staking his own substantial reputation on this being the truth — or, at least, on the government being unable to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that it isn’t. I've reviewed Michael Lewis's book Going Infinite, which just published today as Sam Bankman-Fried's trial kicks off. Ultimately, it's a story of the FTX collapse that never meaningfully changed from the hero story Lewis originally set out to write.

Former FTX exec Ryan Salame has pleaded guilty to two charges in the ongoing FTX trial. Reading further from the original court documents (was working off secondary reporting above), it sounds to me like the $6 million, two properties, car, and ownership/equity in his East Rood Farm Corp. will be the entirety of his payment towards the $1.5 billion money judgment (assuming he cooperates, didn't lie on the affidavit, etc.)#FTX#crypto#cryptocurrencyh/t @nikhileshde
