3rd Spaceout International Ambisonics Festival 2026 (October 22–23) Application Form
CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS:
The Performing Arts Technology Department is thrilled to announce the 3rd Spaceout International Ambisonics Festival, a two-day event celebrating immersive audio. We invite composers from around the world to submit their Ambisonic works and join us in the Chip Davis Technology Studio at the University of Michigan’s School of Music, Theatre & Dance for this unique sonic experience.
There are no entry or registration fees, and there are no restrictions regarding applicants’ age or nationality. All events will be open to the public. We would be delighted to welcome selected composers in person, but attendance is not required for their work to be programmed. Compositions under 12 minutes will be given priority in programming.
TRACKS:
Each composer must choose one track and may submit only one piece total
Track 1: Fixed media
Track 2: Inviso (inviso.cc)
Track 1 (Fixed Media):
Composers must submit both binaural and Ambisonic B-format files for the review process. Submissions must be interleaved multichannel WAV files in 3rd- or 5th-order Ambisonics and must comply with the ambiX format: SN3D normalization, full 3D, and ACN channel ordering.
Track 2 (Inviso):
This year, we are opening an additional submission track for Inviso, a web-based application for designing and experiencing rich and dynamic sonic virtual realities.
The Inviso track may include either fixed or interactive works. Fixed works will be presented on a screen for the audience to watch. Interactive works will allow audience members to freely engage with the compositional world by moving through the scene using the Inviso interface. The final presentation format is up to the composer and should be indicated in the submission form.
